Textpattern 4.0.7 Released — A new tag parser brings us nested template tags, tags as attributes in other tags, and many old tags can now be used as “container” tags, plus a new variables tag, article expiration, an XML-RPC server, and more. A most commendable update. Many thanks to developers Ruud van Melick and Robert Wetzlmayr.

Wow, that was one easy upgrade! No dead donkey. Now I just have to figure out all the new stuff.

I updated a client site, and discovered that the entirely rebuilt tag parser is not only faster, it is stricter. Whereas the lack of a quotation mark, or an extra closing tag would slide by before, now it’s Dead Stop Broken Page.

That’s the only trouble I had, and stricter parsing is far from a Bad Thing. Plus I’m loving the new tag capabilities, like txp:variable
