Is the McCain Campaign Stupid, Or Are You?
At 2:30pm yesterday John McCain yesterday told us he was going to immediately suspend his campaign in order to head back to DC to work on the bailout crisis.
He called David Letterman personally and told him he would not make it to Dave’s 5:30pm taping, as he was going to get on a plane and head back to DC.
Then at about 6:30pm, Dave caught him, live, doing an interview with Katie Couric instead of appearing on his show. Dave shouted at him, “Senator, do you need a ride to the airport?”
He lied to Dave. Directly and personally. Dave made him pay by wailing mercilessly on him for his entire show.
This morning, right now at 9:16am, he’s appearing at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York. Right now he’s giving another political speech. He’s not in DC.
In other words, it appears he lied to you, too.
Oh, he’ll be there later today to meet with Bush and Obama. But the “urgency” he expressed yesterday, that it was important for him to immediately get back to DC, was either a joke or a lie. He’s still in New York, campaigning, 19 hours after saying he must leave for DC immediately.
How stupid do they think we are?

To answer your question, Pretty damned stupid.
This stuff worked for awhile over the last 8 years, and McCain’s got the same people who did it for Bush running his campaign, so….
Meanwhile, if the economic turmoil of this past few weeks (and way before that) is comparable to what happened in 1929, what does a drama-queen posturing photo op with the President and leaders of Congress have to do with actually solving it? But no. Heerrre’s Johnnie!
The possibility of him and “thanks but no thanks” taking the oath of office in January is something out of a bad horror movie. I’d rather have Bush. At least he’s sane and stable.
“I’d rather have Bush. At least he’s sane and stable.”
Never in my entire life would I have ever Dreamed that I would agree with that statement … but I do.
And one more thing: For the first time since perhaps 1980, I’m seeing true Financial Conservatives rightfully rising up against Republican hacks … and that, too, is quite gratifying.
There’s hope for this Country yet!
McCain blinked. He’s going to debate tonight and is ass-covering like mad.
Usually, you can do something Substantively Counterproductive and score political points. Other times, you can take a political loss to make a substantive improvement in policy.
This has been the most astounding combination of Substantively Counterproductive and Politically Idiotic that I’ve ever seen.
Maybe the gov’t shutdown in ’95. But Newt had a chance of scoring political points on that one. This nonsense was doomed from the outset.
Wow.
Insult to injury – the National Review lady hates Palin now.

It’s only a matter of lipstick…
