Time For Another Solution
And so we awake to another Groundhog Day. Or as I said on twitter back in March, “It’s Weasel Day: the weasel came out of his hole this morning, saw his shadow, and predicted seven more weeks of Democratic primary inanity.” The weasel now says he’s not coming out of his damn hole ever again. Like Round 15 in a Rocky movie, it would appear this could go on forever.
But there’s another way. I first suggested the possibility over a year ago. And now my Mom has made it real:

The only campaign promise I have is that I will do my very best to steal enough votes from somebody so that we might end this electoral Hell more swiftly.
Vote for them, and we’ll keep doing this again. Vote for me, and I’ll set you free.

I’m guessing Mom ordered it from some catalog, and I’m nearly certain they have one with your name on it, too.
But which catalog, I don’t know, so I have no ordering information for you.
Mom?
Awesome. All those comments over the years should be good for at least a regional postmaster gig, right?
Vote for Photodude!
It’s all over, the only thing going on now is Clinton tearing the party apart and assuring a Republican win, rather than lose. It’s a classic case of ‘if I can’t have it, nobody can.’
For the straight dope, check on the cool delegate toy at CNN:
Find a way for Clinton to win. First, pull the top slider (the one that changes all the races at the same time) toward Clinton’s side, and see how much she’d have to win EVERY race by to overtake him in the pledged delegate count. For those who care not to click, it’s 72 points. Huh? What it means is that if Clinton gets 85% of the vote to Obama’s 15% in EVERY remaining race, Obama is still going to have more pledge delegates going into the convention. With her boasting about 2% wins in states she was leading by 12% a few weeks ago, I think the concept of winning by 72% is a bit of a stretch. Just a wee bit. Add in doing it six times in a row, and we’ve redefined ‘wee’.
Next, drag that slider to something that’s crazy, but within the realm of possibility (if the media can generate another Wright red herring). Set it to 55% for Clinton, 45% for Obama. Yeah, I know she’s not beating him by that much very often, but bear with me. Now grab that superdelegates slider at the bottom and drag it toward Clinton.
She can win this- YES. Oh, wait. To do so, she’s got to convince more than two thirds of the superdelegates to ignore the will of the voters and go with her. Oh, and the small matter of winning six more primaries by double-digit margins. No biggie.
It’s over, technically. Realistically, this is going to be the ugliest, nastiest, most insane convention ever on record. It will be, in a word- Clintonesque.
I didn’t save the catalog that I ordered your shirt from. All I know is the name, “The Lighter Side.” When I get another catalog, I’ll send more information. I only received 11 catalogs in the mail yesterday. It wasn’t one of them.
I used some Google Fu and found the Lighter Side web site, and this particular item. For less than $25, yes, you too can run for President. I hear it’s cost Hillary over $11 million of her own money so far, so it sounds like a great deal!
emcee: “All those comments over the years should be good for at least a regional postmaster gig, right?”
There must be some civil service pork related to that job of which I am unaware, because it sounds like a punishment gig to me. Wouldn’t you rather have an ambassadorship to some quiet South Pacific island, I mean, nation? I take care of my friends.

There seems to be a sizable fear of that, and you may well be right. But this is all a game of perceptions, and it is possible we are seeing the worm turn. The growing perception is “Clinton did not get the big wins she needed, and there is no numerical path to victory.” People are commenting on the appearance of Bill and Chelsea behind her during the speech last night; Bill looked like he’d just had a temper tantrum (beet red) and Chelsea, according to some, looked about to cry at times. Some even said Hillary had overtones of a concession within that speech (I don’t know, I tuned her out about 30 seconds in).
They know. When you get your butt whipped by 16 points in one state (worse than expectations), and barely squeak out a 1am “last votes in” win in the other state … they know. And I think it is just possible that, this time, they will be shut down by the overwhelming perception “she’s lost, there is no reason for her to continue.” Except the one you stated.
It won’t happen, but I wish Obama would just lay it out. “Many people are wondering why Hillary is still running. Some have suggested she’s running for vice president. If that were the case, I would hope her campaign would contact us to talk about unity, and I would think her campaign, at this late stage, would be run very differently than it clearly has been. So I don’t have the answer, only Hillary does. I hope people will continue to ask her, daily.”
There was a lot of pundit-talk last night about what Hillary’s end game is; does she want to leave the Senate; be vice president; spend the next four years preparing for a run in 2012; or something else? Her stated goal, to be President in 2009, is no longer why she’s running. She’s a lot of things, but she’s not stupid.
As long as your passing out ambassadorships to your cronies, can I get a posting somewhere in the Virgin Islands?
Also, be advised I turn 35 in August, making me eligible for the Presidency, so I will of course spend the next four years of your presidency engaging in a Machiavellian game of deceipt and power-building so I can oust you in a bloodless coup sometime in 2011. I don’t do this out of personal animus, but to test Mel Brooks’ assertion that it’s good to be the King.

I think she’s doing work behind the scenes to seat the Michigan and Florida delegations, since that’s her only shot at winning. She must feel it’s a distinct possibility or she would’ve dropped out weeks ago.
The drawn out primary has given Obama a good talking point. When people say he’s untested and inexperienced, he can point to this primary and state he had to do something no modern Democratic candidate has done — fight off two opponents and run two campaigns at the same time (primary and general election) — and come away successful.
Plus, Hillary has already given us a preview of the Republican attack machine tactics and if his pastor and that “secret muslim” nonsense is all they’ve got, the Republicans are screwed. If they just go with the typical sensationalist nonsense that has nothing to do with the issues, I really pity them in November.
We all probably listen to or read the same pundits, but last night the crew I was watching speculated that she’s positioning herself to play “let’s make a deal”. Top of the list is for Obama to pay off her campaign debt, including the $11 mil she threw in. I had been thinking these past few weeks that she was trying to damage Obama this year so she could take on McCain in 2012. I alternate my thought pattern between “not even the Clintons would do that” and “on the other hand, they are the Clintons”.
I’d really like to be your vice president. When I was out in Jackson Hole, a local gallery owner said, “what a gig it is to be vp! Cheney’s out here all the time. I wish he’d buy some of my art, but all he does is go the the bait shop and the Snake River Grille. You can always tell it’s him because he’s surrounded by all these “tourists” in shorts and fishing caps who’re probably packing a lot more than bait in those little straw baskets.” He gets paid to do that. I could probably bring something to the ticket; I’ll have to ponder on that, though.
reidstott: Feeling burned out today. Too much Independence, I guess.

Where do we order one? (Do you have XXL?)
