New Bosses For The Birds

So the Falcons hired a GM I’ve never heard of, who proceeded to hire a coach I’ve never heard of, to attempt to resurrect the team after a season worse than anyone has ever heard of.

Of course, you could probably put the names of the various NFL assistant coaches and co-ordinators into a hat, then pick one out, and expect your “hat lottery” pick to have more success than this team has had in at least two years. I mean, c’mon, this is the fourth coach the Falcons have had in the past 48 months (Reeves, Mora, Petrino, and now Agent Smith), and the third GM.

When I was a radio program director, in one five year span, I had nine general managers. And no matter how good your “team” is, or any one of those nine GM’s, you reach a point where you crave consistency and persistency. You just want to choose a path, and head down it for more than six or eight months at a time, before someone comes along and points you towards another path.

In the case of the Falcons, one would hope that no one is going to even think about replacing leadership until they’ve had a full three years to institute their program. I mean, I know nothing about either of these guys that you haven’t already read in the paper. But if Blank was willing to sign them, they need the time to do their jobs.

Because on the Good Ship Falcon, there is one whole hell of a lot of bailing to do, before you can even put an oar in the water. It’s going to take time.
