Somewhat Disconnected
For a 22 hour span this week, I was completely cut off from the world. Well, the digital world, and the world of dial tone. You see, some sub-contracted bozo attempting to lay TV cable managed to cut the phone lines of a couple of buildings in our condo complex. DSL and dialup access went with it.
Cable TV still worked fine, of course. Thank you, Comcast.
Anyway, after a down day, I logged back on to see what I’d missed in the world of news. Well, the 124 pound catfish died, and there will soon be toilet paper riots in Finland. Locally, there’s an accused murderer camped out a construction crane, and a Fulton County deputy (you remember the courthouse shooting, don’t you?) who left her loaded weapon in a public restroom at the Juvenile Justice Center. Oh, and Jennifer Wilbanks will be whipped on the town square sometime later this year (DA Porter: “If she in fact is in inpatient treatment, I am going to let her finish that before we lock her up”).
I’m thinking about unplugging the phone again.

Not to worry; I’m pretty sure you can catch the upcoming Jennifer Wilbanks whipping live, simultaneously on several cable channels.
The world of cable internet is not as perfect as I once reported. About once a day, at very odd times, my connection seems to be flooded with packet loss, usually when I’m on my voip phone. And only with certain calls:
“Hi, this is Suzy or Stevie Solicitor. How are you today?”
“Hello…...hello…..”
or
“Hello, this is Mr. Smith with ABC Company….could I please speak to someone in Accounts Payable?”
“Hello…..hello….”
Sometimes being blissfully ignorant of what’s going on is exactly what one needs.
