Googlelanche of Irony
The other day I wondered about a recent drop in traffic. So the Gods of Irony laid a fat one on me. You’ve probably heard of an “Instalanche,” the huge surge in traffic your site can suddenly get from a link at instapundit.com. On Tuesday, I got something much bigger. I got a Googlelanche.
This horrid story caused an amazing number of people to make this search (for which a totally irrelevant page on my site was the third return), no doubt in hope of finding the video of the horrid act.
Shortly after three o’clock, I was getting 4,000 visitors per hour. By day’s end, the total was over 26,000, more traffic in one half day than I had in the entire month of April.
Life’s funny. But I’m not laughing.
Later: Two days and over 50,000 visitors later, Google has thankfully found more relevant returns for that search. The Googlelanche has ceased, without any injuries.

I thank you for the information you provide—even if it’s in the form of an opinion. Mass media outlets tend to veil the facts.
As for your 26,000 hits looking for a link to the “beheading” video, it is the unfortunate nature of humanity to be curious about death. I doubt other life forms would obsess (as we humans do) over crime scene dramas!
