Representing Fear

Representing Fear – U.S. Representative Christopher Shays has a suggestion for you: ”A member of the House Select Committee on Homeland Security and chairman of a terrorism subcommittee, the Connecticut Republican told WVIT-TV on Tuesday that he wouldn’t go to Times Square ’for anything.’

Well, at Underground Atlanta we have ”The Peach Drop,” our own mini Times Square. I wouldn’t go there ”for anything” ... out of fear. I’m afraid it will be as cold, boring, and crowded as it was when I went before, and that’s a scary way to spend New Year’s Eve.

Shays added, ’I wouldn’t go into places when you’re packed and where if there was panic, a lot of injuries would take place.’

I guess that Shay is announcing he won’t be returning to that packed place known at The House of Representatives. After all, it’s a crowded room, in a building that was an intended target on 9/11, and Lucifer knows panic is a staple there.

Mayor Bloomberg suggests the Representative needs to get an infusion of courage, perhaps from former POW Shoshana Johnson, who is New York’s ”special guest” for the Times Square festivities.

’She was a woman fighting to protect the congressman’s freedoms,’ Bloomberg said. ’She was captured and wounded in Iraq. Maybe he should call her and learn a little bit about courage.’

Maybe so. But I think the Representative may be busy. He and Michael Jackson have an appointment at their 12 Step Therapy Program…

”Hi, my name is Chris. [Hi, Chris] It’s been 24 hours since I said something stupid in the media…”

Happy New Year, Reid! I've been in Times Square a couple of times for the big celebration, but I was younger and more drug-addled then. Our plans for tonight include popcorn and videos in our warm home. Tomorrow we feast on ham, black-eyed peas and cornbread.

And Happy New Year to you as well, John. I, too, did a lot more "goin'-out" on New Year's Eve when I was younger ... and recovered quicker. And was less irritable in crowds of drunken revellers. Nowadays, we have a small party. Two people. Since January 1 is Susan's birthday, we'll be staying at home tonight, popping some champagne, and opening her presents a wee bit early. And other things we shant discuss in a public forum. And that's plenty for me.
