Blowing Your Cover – There was this blogger I ”knew,” Indepundit.com, and last December he had a somewhat cryptic ”goodbye” post on his site (which I now see is, er, at a different location): ”My employer has offered me a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take on a leadership role in a major international venture. This project would bring a significant increase in pay and benefits, but would also involve incredibly long working hours and extensive travel; in other words, I would be ’living out of my luggage’ for the next several months [...] Unfortunately, this means that I will be forced to give up many of the activities that bring me pleasure, including this journal.”

He hasn’t been heard from since. Or has he? His old domain now looks to be identical to this site, which both appear to be undergoing the same redesign. In fact, it appears that where the content from Mr. Indepundit ends, content from Lt. Smash begins. Hmmm.

I don’t want to put anyone’s cover at risk by saying anything more, I hear that can be a felony. However, I do recall that after dinner with the Smashes, I said, ”I swear, all night long, I kept thinking … I know this guy from somewhere else.”

Later: He’s confessed, right down to his assumed name: ”With apologies to Matt Groening, I borrowed the name ’L.T. Smash’ from an unscrupulous Navy recruiter in an episode of The Simpsons.”
