Dumping Blogshares
Dumping Blogshares – I’ve mentioned this “game” once before, and how much fun it was. Was. My, how things have changed.
Each day, I get up to an e-mail telling me someone has pilfered my stock. This morning I woke up to a hostile takeover of Vodkapundit, Davezilla, and Instapundit. Blue chip stocks that I spent a lot of time collecting … gone. Other big stocks are constantly (almost daily) “restructured” via something called an “artefact.” I’d try to explain it to you if it had a remotely similar counterpart in the real market. But it doesn’t.
It just seem to exist to allow the richer players to piss off the poorer players (note, I’m a Blogshares multi-millionaire, though I dumped all my stock this morning). Others have said, “You are creating the sense of class warfare.”
Perhaps. But I’d say you’ve squeezed the fun out of the game for 98% of the players, so that 2% can have a blast a getting richer at their expense. The market stats page lists 10,389 players (although supposedly less than 5,000 are currently active). One quarter of one percent of those are billionaires, and 11.6% are millionaires. Since only those with $100 million or more have a chance to purchase one of these “artefacts,” the effect is that the richest 2% get to pillage the portfolios of the remaining 10,000 players.
However, from reading the Blogshares forums, it’s clear this isn’t going away, it’s going to get worse. So I’m opting out of the Game That Is No Longer Fun.

You're right, life won't change much at all. 'Tis just a game. But this morning, I was pretty peeved about it. I think that at some level, all games seem really stupid, as they consume time with little to no benefit. I think the kids call it "fun."
Not only is it not fun, but from what I've seen it is also a massive Time Sink. I've got enough of my own.
Hi, I did the exact same thing after losing over 10,000 shares. Artefacts have ruined what was once a fun game.
I dropped out and pulled my sites off of their listing, when they closed the index shares. I made a majority of my cash using those indexes, because I really couldn't get the "big" shares, because they had been pilfered by the B.S. insiders. I had enough, it stopped being fun, and pulled everything off.
You mean they actually pulled your sites? I've made the request in the "Delisting Forum," but 48 hours later, no reply, and no delisting. Since my blogs have quite a few investors, I guess they're worried about people losing stock in a manner beyond their control. Too bad they didn't worry about that before introducing artefacts, because that's exactly the reason I'm quitting the game.
It took about three days, to get my sites weblog.mkelley.net, my old rightbrain blog, and a blogger blog removed. I put my request in the forum and it was done. The V2 org has been there for months. I'd probably add a message a day, until it was removed.
Hey photodude, you completely ruined my investment in you! I thought that you were going big! ;-) No, seriously though, I completely understand where you are coming from. I had wilwheatondotnet and instapundit taken away from me completely this weekend, and quite frankly, the game isn't all that fun for me anymore.
"the effect is that the richest 2% get to pillage the portfolios of the remaining 10,000 players." Hmmmmmmm, sounds like the real market to me Dude. Walt

oh well.. life won't change much at all now, will it? i looked at blogshares and signed up, but after playing with it for about 30 minutes i couldn't see why i should bother. seems really stupid.. but i'm just not a gamer, i guess.
