Holiday Weekend Activities
Holiday Weekend Activities – “The best way for a man to carry a woman is to dangle her upside down over his back, with her thighs squeezing his neck and her arms around his torso [...] Estonian men turned up in this little farming village lugging their women upside down five years ago, and the sport of wife carrying hasn’t been the same since.”
“This Estonian dominance doesn’t sit well with the Finns, who have been wife-carrying since the late 1800s, when marauding gangs would make off with women from neighboring villages.”
Ah, I love a sport that has roots in reality. This weekend the Wife Carrying World Championship is being held in Sonkajarvi, Finland. The course is “a 278-yard oval track that includes a 3-foot-deep water trough and two hurdles of wooden logs,” there’s a penalty of 15 seconds for dropping your wife (home penalties assessed separately), and the winner gets the woman’s weight in beer.
I think I’ll just go watch fireworks instead. However, if I had the option to go watch the Wife Carrying World Championship, well, I’ve seen lots of fireworks…

And they they invented the USA, and that's where everything went wrong: my next village is 28 miles East. She might be Cindy Crawford, I am not carrying her for 28 miles. Christina Aguilera, mmm, she doesn't weigh much, does she?
