Live From Downtown Baghdad
Live From Downtown Baghdad – I guess my little Photoshoppery from the other day wasn’t too far off. It’s not certain if they plan on staying, but right now, US forces are in downtown Baghdad in brigade strength (over 100 armored vehicles), positioned near two Presidential Palaces, Zawra Park, and a couple of bridges. The only Iraqi “resistance” to be seen in the reports so far is on foot, northbound, at a trot.
And you can see much of it live. Fox has been eating CNN for lunch, with Greg Kelly reporting live from downtown Baghdad, under rather historic circumstances. And pretty surreal ones, too. I just saw him interview two officers from the 3rd ID, standing on Saddam’s front lawn, outside the New Presidential Palace, Qadisiya Expressway, Downtown Baghdad. Asked if they’d been inside, one officer said he hadn’t, but he understood there was running water inside, and he intended to take his first shower in weeks in Saddam’s personal bathroom.
Then, he and his fellow officer (who were in the same frat house in college) held up a big University of Georgia banner, and said, “How ’bout them Dawgs.”
I kid you not. Live, via satellite, from Saddam’s front yard.
