Hoarding in Hard Times

Hoarding in Hard Times – I now own a significant percentage of Atlanta’s supply of the light magenta ink for the Epson 2200, the one color out of seven that is often nearly impossible to find.

A man’s got to be prepared for hard times and shortages.

Laughing out loud at this - I think I've hoarded up the Los Angeles supply of light magenta (and light black, which I run out of only slightly less often). I thought I was okay for awhile, but now that I have to print an entire portfolio this weekend...

Indeed. I used to scoff at all the little ants running around hoarding stuff. No longer. My Oki C7200n color laser printer probably doesn't produce the quality of your Epson, but I probably beat you in toner costs. It gulps down 4 separate toner cartridges at $190 a pop (before adding in shipping). In January, just prior to mailing out several thousand postcards before the biggest trade show of the year, we ran out of Magenta toner. We had exactly one day to get a new one in house. Long story short, we finally found the remaining Atlanta distributor for Oki magenta laser cartridges (who had one in stock after a run to his "warehouse") way out in the wilds of Smyrna. I drove down a dirt road past several vehicles up on blocks and a couple of roaming, leashless, dump dogs, before finding this distributor, who operated out of his basement. (Who the hell runs a business out of their basement?) Anyway, I now have 4 expensive new cartridges permenantly affixed to the shelf above the printer. No longer the sleek green grasshopper, I've joined the ranks of the grubby brown ants in these Hard Times. I guess, except for the 4 x 6" flag on the door, it's the least I can do.
