You Are What You Carry Around

You Are What You Carry Around – Over at Boing Boing, there’s a list defined as, “I hardly ever leave the house without my…” OK, I can play:

My Aproductlist_html_98659LOORBQREGCatID=4338_SID=F415EFECDD0”>Super-Size my Man Purse.

Digital Camera: For almost two and a half years, I carried around a Nikon 990, wide angle and telephoto lens adaptors, and about 16 rechargeable AA batteries to feed the power hungry beast. Now I only carry one backup battery (which is needed about every three days), and it fits into my newish Canon D60. A considerably larger camera than the 990, it still fits nicely in the PhotoRunner with a 35-70mm lens attached. I also currently carry a 70-210mm lens, and sometimes squeeze my 20mm lens in as well (but it’s a too tight fit).

PDA: My three year old Palm IIIe still functions as my traveling phone book and calendar, but became too much of a pain to keep synched with Outlook on my old system (USB and driver hassles). Monochrome and light on memory (2 MB), it has been dependable but is doomed to replacement (see below)

Cell Phone: I still carry a three year old Nokia 6190, and as little as I use a cell phone (152 minutes last month), it’s fine. Not too big, and Cingular’s coverage is considered the strongest in Atlanta. However, my plan is out of date in terms of offerings, as is my phone. But Cingular’s current phone offerings are limited in both quantity and features. I’d planned on my next “cell phone” being a multi-use device, a Palm phone. They’ve become fairly common offerings, but not from Cingular. So I’m seriously considering switching to Sprint, so I can get a Samsung i330. In addition to all the functions (PDA, cell phone with speakerphone, voice recorder), I love the Freudian shape.

Misc: A compass, for those times I feel directionless. A 256 MB flash card, for those times I feel like I’m out of memory. A few 4×5 inch white cards (from 4×5 film boxes) and a pen, for those times I want to brainstorm the old fashioned way. A special lighter. Sunglasses. Patience (limited supply, may be on back order).

That’s about it.
