Creative Commons
Creative Commons – It’s another busy week, but I wanted to make sure I mentioned the newly launched licensing project at Creative Commons: “The Licensing Project will build licenses that will help you tell others that your works are free for copying and other uses — but only on certain conditions. You’re probably familiar with the phrase ’All rights reserved’ and the little ® that goes along with it. Creative Commons wants to help copyright holders send a different message: ’Some rights reserved’ ”
You can read “licenses explained” for a full listing of the options, but you are able to mix and match the choices to satisfy most situations. I haven’t got time to devote to it this week, but on first glance, I’m leaning towards placing Pixel Pile images under a “Attribution, Non-Commercial, No Derivative Works” license. I still need to think about it, but it certainly is nice to have that option.
If you create copyrighted work and place it on the web, by all means, do yourself (and others) a favor and check it out.
