War of the Warbloggers
War of the Warbloggers – (Meta-Alert for non-webloggers … run while you still can) If you have a weblog, try to read the link with an open (not defensive) mind. If you can. "In street language: You can say anything you want. That doesn’t mean you should. There comes a point in life when you are expected to act like an adult."
Like times of approaching war. I’m in favor of regime change in Iraq, by military imposition, if necessary. I just don’t see one damn thing funny about it.
There’s a world more I could say about this, with linky-love/linky-hate, pointy fingers, with a slew of ugly comments to follow. But doing so would be mostly pointless, and just stir up more detritus that has already settled to the blog-bottom. This half measure is nearly as pointless, as people will do whatever they want to do in their weblogs … as is their right.
But just a spoonful of introspection can go a long way, if you can stop gorging yourself … on yourself.
I’ve already been somewhat sarcastically chastised elsewhere for offering one serious but contrary thought, so I’ll cop out by just quoting ”Sgt. Paul”: "It’s odd to castigate a blogger who may not tow your line in an attempt to get them to see your point, yet at the same time resort to rhetorical nonsense when a fellow blogger challenges their peers to take a step back and assess what they’re doing. Resorting to sarcasm and blowing off a person’s honest attempt/challenge of reassessment by calling them names or engaging in character assassination is taking the easy way out. It doesn’t require you to think about or consider what they’re saying and it relieves you of having to go through any serious introspection."
I don’t agree with everything Diane wrote, but I think it deserves more consideration than merely being blown off with a sarcastic comment … there’s some nuggets of truth within. Just go read it, with an open mind. If you can. You might see a tiny slice of yourself within. It’s possible you might even realize…
...it’s not funny anymore.
After a nearly interminable, redundant, and often boring lead-up to the Congressional Authorization and the UN Resolution (during which bored people did what bored people do … get a bit silly), it is time to realize we are now potentially mere weeks away from people dying during a war, and act accordingly. In my opinion, that calls for a certain seriousness and thoughtfulness. Out of respect.
Clearly, your mileage may vary.
