Radio Station Solicits Criminal Acts

Radio Station Solicits Criminal Acts – Gosh, this story makes the folks who fired the Country morning jock because he sounded ”too southern” seem like Radio Einsteins. Three people were arrested because of a sex act in a vestibule at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. Yes, three.

"The couple had entered a radio contest of the WNEW afternoon talk program, ’Opie and Anthony,’ a police spokesman said. As part of the live show, six couples were given a list of 54 different high-risk locations at which to have sex in the city, including St. Patrick’s on Fifth Avenue, and nearby Rockefeller Centre. An usher observed the couple and also saw Mercurio on his cell phone allegedly relaying the stunt back to the radio station, where he worked as a field producer, the police spokesman said."

We’ll skip over the obvious room-temperature IQ of people who thought it would be a good idea to encourage couples to have sex in church, but you can turn up the heat. One can’t legislate against professional idiocy, or the brain damage caused by either excessive drug usage or a parental drop-on-the-head that must surely be the root cause of this ”idea.”

However, one can charge (and sue) a radio station for aiding and abetting a criminal act. And though I’m certain the DA’s and police of New York City have far more important crimes to fight, this is a case where a point needs to be made: shock radio can be held responsible for the idiotic acts they encourage.

In business, wherever possible, stupidity should have a high price.
