Anecdotal Media Convergence
Anecdotal Media Convergence – During the breaking news of the plane crash in Milan, Italy, I’m watching the aviation correspondent on CNN ”educate” the audience about Piper aircraft by surfing the web, and putting the browser display on TV. A big honking full screen international satellite fed browser display of the product line at newpiper.com.
Even a year ago, would anyone have dreamed of seeing that on a network newscast? In mere seconds, more people laid eyeballs on the Piper web site than probably had in its entire lifetime … and they did it on TV.
It just emphasizes the convergence in media, and that when you need information fast, even if you’re a reporter, you turn to the web. And sometimes the most efficient thing to do just show the viewers the web page directly. The TV equivalent of linky-love.
