Dangerous Religious Fanatics
On this day of national mourning, there’s still plenty of time for obscene hatred for some religious fanatics … men who call themselves “Christians”:
“I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way all of them who have tried to secularize America I point the finger in their face and say, ‘You helped this happen,’ “
Jerry Falwell, 9/13/01
“Well, I totally concur, and the problem is we have adopted their agenda at the highest levels of our government.”
Pat Robertson, 9/13/01
Thank you, Mr. Falwell and Mr. Robertson for spreading a message of Christian hatred at a time the rest of America is pulling together. It’s a perfect time for supposed men of God to point fingers in faces and cast bigoted blame. So Christian. Your words reveal exactly where your priorities are, and where your heart is … absent, completely disconnected from the current American Reality.
You spread hatred in the name of religion. Can you guess who that reminds me of? You are our own shining examples of what is wrong with this world. I spit on you in disgust.

Good. Especially now that it seems one of the heroes of Flight 93 was a gay man - whenever their views are repeated, I hope *that* is repeated as well. I'd love to see Mark Bingham's name become a bright enough light to keep the names of Falwell and Robertson permanently in the dark. But I say "good", because even without that, I'm actually glad they said what they said: because if *this* doesn't, finally and completely, reveal them to the world and to the people who believe in them for what they really are, then nothing can. Through their own words they have at least left no doubt of what they are - and I have to believe, to hope, that anyone left who couldn't see it before but has any capacity to do so still left in them, will finally see it now.

Read this this morning. They have finally exposed themselves for who they really are and what they really represent. Thank you, gentleman. Couldn't have done it better, myself, if _I_ were writing about you. Thank you, PD, for putting it in your blog so that it will not be forgotten. They can't take their words back, and I hope no one forgets them. Unfortunately, there will still be people who will wear blinders and will defend their words in the name of christianity...and they just won't ever "get it".
