"Wind Done Gone" Author Speaks
”Wind Done Gone” Author Speaks – I have received many hits on my site from folks seeking more info about the Novel Litigation Made Famous, The Wind Done Gone, lured here by my previous comments. Now you can get it from the source:
”I wrote with the hope of creating an antidote to a poisonous text. My grandfather could not read or write. My father gave me two charges: ’I want you to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves’ and ’Speak up, you’re not down South.’ My Daddy couldn’t even imagine staying down South and speaking up.”
”The Mitchell estate wants to talk about property rights, but it doesn’t own what I have seen. It doesn’t own what my grandfather saw, what he felt but couldn’t put down on paper, what he knew. It doesn’t own what my grandmother told me about her experience of Gone With the Wind. When I read Gone With the Wind, it branded my brain. What I made of that scar is my very own.”
Personally, I hope Ms. Randall gets to publish her novel. From the judge’s wording in his ruling, it appears he wasn’t exactly ”above the fray” in his opinion: ”When the reader of Gone With the Wind turns over the last page, he may well wonder what becomes of Ms. Mitchell’s beloved characters and their romantic, but tragic, world.” Hopefully this will be one of the many points of appeal, and the novel will be published. For those who find it offensive, I offer the same suggestion that appears on many of the pages on this site; ”If you don’t like it, don’t look at it.”

I really want to read this novel! I'm excited about the concept of it... normally I take my own sweet time reading books that have a lot of "buzz," but this is one that I would buy in hardback the day it comes out. It's funny, though, I've never been able to get past the first chapter of the original novel and I hated the movie. I find it funny that they would allow "Scarlett" to be published, but they say this book would ruin the integrity of their brand.
